An interesting fact about fairies: In 1917, two girls by the name of Elsie Wright and her cousin Frances Griffiths took photos of themselves with fairies. At first their parents dismissed the photos as silly nonsense, but after British Theosophist Edward Gardener and famous writer Arthur Conan Doyle backed the little girls up, word spread as far as America. It was only in 1983 when Elsie and Frances confessed that the photos were fake. Elsie, was a wonderful artist and had painted the fairies onto paper and stuck them into the ground with hat pins. A little photographic trickery produced by 2 mischievous girls had suddenly become a worldwide phenomenon. Now classed as one of the worlds most famous hoaxes, the Cottingley Fairy pictures are still as much adored today as they were nearly 100 years ago.
